Artist’s Statement- A Language of Nature
I use materials in what Van Gogh called a “language of nature,” My aim is to translate altered perceptions within images and constructions that articulate physical, spiritual and scientific phenomena. Using unconventional hardware - a blow torch, iron and other heated tools - along with paper, encaustics, photography, 3D prints, mirrors, resin and reclaimed materials, I aim to translate the wonders of nature and humanity. I intentionally use materials to prompt varied viewpoints and experiences utilizing transparency, weightlessness, depth or reflection. As told through art, my work is a voyage or passage through spaces that reflect innate, random or earthly process. My subjects and abstractions deliberate unity, commonality or refuge while the mysterious power of nature remains prominent.
